CULTURAL ENCOUNTERS BLOG REFLECTION

On your Cultural Encounters blog, make a new post and complete the following reflection. Be sure to use complete sentences and write in paragraphs.

1. What was one thing you learned from the simulations we played in class? How did this help you understand the essential questions better?
The thing I learn't from the simulations is that Iheard that most of the colonies could have died the first winter.

2. Reading was a part of Cultural Encounters. When you read the books you were asked to think about your reading. What did you learn about your reading while doing this?
That the pilgrims probably weren't very happy during the trip to the new world.

3. Did the journal entries help you to better understand your character? Why or why not? Explain in detail.
Yes because I learnt a lot about a farmer because I was a farmer and the journal entries weren't very hard to do.

4. What was the best part of your presentation? How could it have been improved?
My favorite part was my only part that I had. I think I could have made it a bit more longer.

5. What was the biggest learning you gained from this unit? Explain with details.
That the first winter and the trip were both very hard and boring.
Ronald's Journal

Sitting on the dock, I felt happy. Because I didn't have to pay taxes any more. I was slightly nervous though, I was leaving England for the first time!!! As the boat came a shore, I hurried on with the other people.

Later on the boat, farmers were getting worried, we were running out of food and we were ill. We were unable to see land. The day we all saw land. Everyone was happy, but the bad news was that we had to pay a tax to get on land, which means my sons have to give a lot of their valuable stuff away. When we reached land, the place was wonderful.
Our hopes were, going to make it because my wife has already died, and Alec is very ill. My dreams were that I was in a nice beautiful home with a lot of corn. My fears were that Alec might die. Elly has barfed a million times on the Mayflower
We are moving so fast that we can have freedom and enough land for farmers.

I am hoping that I will make it, I am fearing that I will die on the journey. I am dreaming of living in a beautiful house in the New World.

I feel seasick, homesick and really bored.

We have been through many storms and the have completely blown us off course.

I was so happy that we were back on to land. Because we were seasick, very bored and unable to see land for more than a month.

We got sick from an everlasting roller coaster and passed through a million storms.

I am hoping to have a peaceful time here for the rest of my life.

I am dreaming about a wonderful time in a beautiful village.

I am fearing that somebody else already lives here and will attack us.

We have had half our people die during our first winter.

We have had a wonderful summer and grew a mountain of corn.

Yes, we have went to the Silver Smith for homes.

We had a small amount food, during winter but then we had a massive amount at the summer.

We've grown much more food by killing a deer.

They've been attacking us since We've arrived here because we intruded their land.

Indians attacked us.

We've run out of food.

Because we have a lot of food.

Good now because we have traded with the Indian's.

Good news we get to believe in whatever kind of religion we want.

Bad news we have to work all day long.
A New Kind of Freedom.
How did he feel about the decision later?
Bad.
A New Kind of Freedom.
What convinced Johann to go to America?
450 acres of land.
Mollys Dream
What will she have to do to make her dream come true?
Move to the new world.
Mollys Dream
What dream does Molly have?
A house that was at the side of the village with a pond geese, ducks, and a dog.

Essential Questions

Why don't people think, act and speak the same way we do?

2They speak a different language-Some people speak Japanese while some speak African.
3They might be deaf, blind or mute-Like Hellen Keller.
